Dr. Jon G. Eichelberger is a family medicine doctor. He provides a wide spectrum of care, ranging from urgent medical needs to preventive care, for all age groups. He manages chronic diseases and educates his patients on matters important to their health.

Eichelberger earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was in an interdisciplinary honors liberal arts program and studied Latin, music and biochemistry. He earned his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He completed a residency in family medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Shadyside Hospital.

Eichelberger moved to California – the 49th state he had visited – in 1991. He is passionate about helping underserved communities access health care, and previously worked at several medical centers reaching out to those communities. At UCSF, he enjoys walking to work, the collegiate atmosphere and working with some of the best minds in medicine.

Eichelberger ran his first marathon as a medical resident and has since run a total of 73. He has also participated in in several triathalons and the AIDS/LifeCycle – a bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles that raises money for HIV and AIDS services – as both a rider and a volunteer doctor.

    The provider gave me an accurate information regarding endometriosis. I also felt that the provider was condescending and didn't listen to the breadth of my symptoms. I would not like to have him as a provider again.

    Dr E seemed concerned about my health issues and prescribed the necessary tests. The visit took longer than expected yet he was willing to go into his lunch hour to cover all issues. I was quite impressed by this.

    Felt not listened to or understood in the visit. I came in with multiple issues to discuss was told the visit would be 45 minutes bit then the provider informed me during the visit we only had 20 minutes. Generally felt the provider offered canned advice without really understanding my specific situation. He veered into areas I wasnt looking for his help on and left generally upset from my appointment.

    I came in with a possible meniscus tear and arthritis and a knee that had meniscus surgery in 2013. The doctor suggested PT but the pain has been so bad. I can't work or do normal walking activities which I feel warrants a closer look or referral to an ortho. Physical therapy doesn't meet my getting to work timeline. I suggested prk cortisone MRI but he pushed PT through. Having had meniscus surgery before I'm not sure that his evidence-based opinion serves me well. I would like a second opinion at Laurel village my provider

    Dr Eichelberger listens carefully spends time explaining options and treatment plan and answers all questions. Feels as if you're the only one he needs to talk to-no feeling of rushing off to the next patient!

    Friendly doctor though I didn't like that he was ready to prescribe blood pressure meds without trying alternatives until I asked for it. I would have like him to offer the alternatives first.Also it felt like my worries about the effects of the Moderna Covid vaccine were brushed aside a bit.

    I am a big fan of UCSF - my wife is an ICU nurse and I've had good experiences with my doctors in the past. However I had a very disappointing experience with this particular doctor. He mischaracterized my symptoms during my visit - I was clear that I had stomach issues only but he kept saying I was constipated. More frustratingly I can't schedule an appointment with my GI doctor because they are still waiting a response from him to confirm whether I need just an upper endoscopy or an upper endoscopy and a colonoscopy. It's been several weeks and he has not responded despite me making multiple calls to the office. This has a been a very frustrating experience.

    It's wast time the care provider never listened me he is so arrogant it's not a person I want see again He doesn't listened me about my questions or about what I really want it's worst doctor I saw on all my life I really appreciate if I have my care provider appointment soon because really I wasted my time

    Dr. Eichelberger made me feel deficient for still using meds to address adhd symptoms and like my low dose prescription for blood pressure medicine was a burden on him. I realize what I heard and what the doctor meant to convey may be two different things which is my point - I don't think Dr. Eichelberger realized how his language and exam was received.

    Extremely disappointing and dismissive behavior. Hogged the visit time by going on tangents about unrelated topics which ate into the patient's finite visit time and left inadequate time to ask and address patient's concerns. Ignored patient's requests and concerns. Unwilling to act based on specific feedback regarding inaccurate measurement of patient's vitals and brushed them off. When the patient raised concerns instead of addressing the patient's concerns talked about unrelated topics at the cost of wasting the patient's time. Disinterested in taking action based on recent patient's change of body measurements and instead used last year's measurements even though the patient explicitly mentioned a significant weight loss of 12 lbs in the past 2 months. Not trustworthy and horribly bad experience.

    This provider at UCSF really listened to me about my issues. I appreciate the time he took to have a conversation rather than ordering a test or new medication. Also one of my pet peeves are that some providers at UCSF type while I explain my issues. I feel that in those instances I am not given their full attention. This provider did not do that. He literally turned his chair and looked at me eye to eye while we discussed my issues! I left with a plan to improve my health! Thank you thank you!!

    Dr. Eichelberger thus far is exceptional. Hopefully this will continue if I ever get seriously ill again. I'm trusting and crossing my fingers it will since he's exceptional so far.

    I loved Jon. He made a difficult situation much easier. He called and messaged me as a follow up. He consulted with my PCP to confirm the long term plan. So nice open really wonderful!

    I was told I am overdue for multiple vaccines which I have delayed due to my anxiety around hypodermic needles. The staff said they understood and didn't pressure me to get the shots (which was nice) but also didn't offer to prescribe me anything so I could get the vaccines at a later date with support of anxiety medication. Seemed weird

    I felt he was dismissive and condescending. I expressed my concern that my pain might be due to kidney function. He responded that my thoughts was a cultural thought. I did not feel reassured with my concerns.

    I was given zero follow up care besides a referral. Wasn't told about supportive care only told me how I could not take plaxcovid. Also in notes provider said I was severely overweight which is not correct as I am not in the severe category.

    57 days if extreme insomnia and doctor said no to any sleep sedative and go home and "heal over time." I go to an m.d. For treatment. I continue live in a state of adrenaline and limited sleep.

    Dr Eichelberger was very thorough and took the time to connect with me and get to know my overall wellness educated me and answered my questions. My experience with Kaiser Permanente has been contrary to this. They only focused on treating a symptom and didn't do an overall health assessment with me or tried to get to know me.
