Dr. Robert Stamper is an ophthalmologist who specializes in diagnosing, monitoring and treating patients with glaucoma. He is the former director of the UCSF Glaucoma Clinic. His research interests include methods of diagnosing and treating glaucoma early to prevent vision loss.

Stamper earned his medical degree at State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. He then served as a physician in the Peace Corps for two years. He completed his residency in ophthalmology and a fellowship in glaucoma at Washington University in St. Louis.

Stamper belongs to the American Academy of Ophthalmology and received its Life Achievement Honor Award in 2008. He also is a member of the American Ophthalmological Society, American Glaucoma Society and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He has served as chair of Prevent Blindness Northern California.

    I never met with Dr. Stamper. Once the nurse actually read my scheduling notes where I had specified my need for an eye exam she pointed out that the doctor does not do those and she told me I would need to reschedule. She did try to find another doctor who might be available to see me immediately but there was no one.
